About Karen Johnston:
Karen Johnston is an intuitive abstract painter residing in Nashville, Tennessee. Holding a BFA in Illustration from Columbus College of Art and Design, she allows her art to continually grow and change alongside her journey. Her work is informed by sitting with everyday moments that flow through the heart and letting them dance on the canvas.

With a personal style that ponders and celebrates nature and life, she paints with a desire to uplift the spirit and stimulate growth. Her commissioned paintings equally aim to provide colorful inspiration while focusing on the bright, inner intentions of her clients. No two works are alike.

In 2022 Karen was curated into the Manhattan Arts International “The Spirit of Resilience” 2022, “HerStory” 2022 and “HerStory” 2023 juried online exhibitions. Karen-Johnston ArtistKaren Johnston’s Artist Statement:  “My art is a colorful interpretation of the human story (histories, experiences, memories) from an intuitive, sensory perspective. It is the internal imagery of unfolding emotion based on my life and countless lives of others – stories bound by hope. In paint, my intentions emerge. I let my artistic voice enunciate emotional landscapes of the heart, then tenderly lace them with buoyant, light-filled inspiration to evoke a sense of calm and healing amidst life’s deep journey. My touch is sensitive, my marks flowing and my palette bright so that viewers may ease into a place of peace and be uplifted.”

Fascinating Facts About Karen Johnston: Karen is also an avid writer and uses writing as part of her process, flowing back and forth between words and paint to bring forth finished pieces. She is also passionate about artistic collaboration and projects that integrate the arts with healthcare and wholeness. She founded The H.O.P.E. Ministry in 2011, a local support community for those with cancer, life-changing illness and caregivers and works with non-profits who want to make a positive difference using art.

It’s true! The joyful colors (slightly neutralized so not too “sweet”) really did attract me to her painting. Color choice has huge emotional impacts and her palette shows how she understands this and uses it to create an uplifting sense of optimism, playfulness and joy. Lots of white for good measure and some interesting marks. Love it! Happy New Year!
